Craniosacral Biodynamics

This very gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork supports you to:

drop into deep rest and relaxation
gently release trauma, stress and tension
discover new levels of health and aliveness

It can be helpful at any stage of life, from prenatal and newborn to elderhood and the dying process.

What are the benefits of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?

  • This therapy can help your over-active nervous system to re-set itself so you can experience greater rest, peace, and wholeness.

Instead of constantly running in “fight or flight” mode, you can slow down and relax in a way that supports self-repair and rejuvenation functions like sleep and digestion.

This is particularly helpful to…

  • Release trauma

  • Recover from the daily stresses of living in our fast-paced world

As your nervous system functions better, you may feel more at ease in every aspect of your life, work, body, and relationships.

Craniosacral Biodynamics helps your body-mind remember and access its deepest health…

What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, profound bodywork disinguished by its orientation to the energetic forces forming us as little embryoes in the womb and throughout life.

Franklyn Sills, pioneer in the field and founder of Karuna Institute in Devon, UK, describes this beautiful work in the video to the left.

There is an intelligence your body-mind uses to form and heal itself. All of life seems to be guided by a mysterious sacred presence, the “Breath of Life.” Named back in the 1940s by Dr. William Garner Sutherland, who studied cranial motion and its effects for over 40 years.

Sutherland’s work with what he called Cranial Osteopathy, or Osteopathy in the Cranial Field, initially involved the bones and other tissues of the physical body, starting with the cranium, or skull. Over time, his awareenss became more subtle and holistic. Universal energetic forces became more important in the work than the outward expression of them in the tissues.

The Breath of Life manifests through subtle rhythmic motion we call Primary Respiration. Present long before lung breathing, the breath of air, begins at birth, Primary Respiration can be perceived not only in the physical body, but also in energetic fields surrounding it. We can sense ourselves as energetic fields within fields. We find that holding our clients with a wide, holistic awareness of these formative forces and fields supports your…

Emotional well-being

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapists learn to sense where your body is relaxed and flowing with these universal, or Biodynamic, forces. They also can detect areas that may be frozen, locked, or tight from stress and trauma, and help you to receive support for your health and self-repair.

How does it Work?

Have you ever noticed that if you’re agitated but near a calm person, you start feeling calmer? Or if you're near someone who's frantic, you feel more frenzied?

Scientists have discovered there are energy fields around each person’s body. The biomagnetic field produced by the calm person near you can actually affect the cells, tissues, fluids and energy of your body. Because of this, you begin to resonate with the other person and feel calmer. This is part of what happens in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy.

Biodynamic Craniosacral therapists are trained to work with this kind of resonance and to "listen" to the subtle expressions of your body-mind. Rather than treat specific symptoms or try to fix something, they become quiet within themselves and cultivate...

  • Peaceful relaxation

  • Acceptance of what is

  • Awareness of health, wholeness and the deeper formative forces

  • Trust in the process as it unfolds

Your body-mind responds through resonance and is reminded to…

  • Relax

  • Let go

  • Take its own steps toward health in whatever way it needs to.

I offer Craniosacral Biodynamics through:

  • practitioner trainings and post-graduate seminars, often with my husband, Biodynamics pioneer, Franklyn Sills.

  • individual treatments in Totnes, UK

  • supervision and mentoring for new and experienced practitioners

“During the sessions I become very peaceful, still, and calm, and often enter a very deep state. I feel much freer, lighter, happier, and more grounded. In general, life seems a lot easier. My body works better, old injury sites are less painful, my vision has improved, and I feel reconnected to myself.”

-Julie Irwin, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Client

The gentle, calm, loving presence I experience in the sessions helps me accept myself. It gives me permission to be at rest and at peace, and to know I’m held in love by others. I have a sense of bringing a disjointed sense of self into alignment with wholeness. I come to a place of ease in myself.
